Translucent House, 1927
RUDOLPH SCHINDLER

Austrian architect Rudolph Schindler first worked with Aline Barnsdall on the Frank Lloyd Wright´s Hollyhock house in California. Schindler continued to work with Barnsdall, even after she had a falling-out with Wright. The Translucent house was designed to be set along a cliff-top overlooking the Pacific Ocean in Palos Verdes, California. It was never built, and has been named one of the greatest unfinished projects of the twentieth century

One of the house's most innovative features is the translucent plywood ceiling. This house is a complex and dramatic piece of architecture, set on a cliff top overlooking the pacific ocean, this project to plays with color, shadows, voids, but more importantly, captures light.
