Da Lima house, 1953
OSCAR NIEMEYER

This house is located in a sloped site in Rio de Janeiro overlooking the ocean.

From the street level, the lightweight roof appears as if it was floating in the air contrasting with the heavy stone walls.

The interior space has floor to ceiling windows that allow the interior space to be integrated with nature.

Also, pillars showcase the ability of Niemeyer to find elegant and plastic solutions with reinforced concrete.

The bedrooms and the more private areas of the house can be found in the second floor, while the more public parts are found in the first floor, which is at street level.
